Jeans Weather

white ruffle tank—Gap (new!)
green cardigan--Express, remixed
jeans--Joe's Provacateur via ebay, remixed
gold sandals--Madden Girl via ebay, remixed

Yay for jeans weather!  I feel like I haven’t worn denim all summer since it’s been so hot here.  It felt amazing to pull on a pair of soft jeans, a cute top, cardigan and sandals—so simple and classic!

I got this top at the Gap last week when I finally went to use my Groupon there.  I love it!  I originally went in wanting this skirt, but as much as I loved it, it did not love my body.  No matter!  I love the simplicity of a crisp white top and the ruffles are so pretty!  IMG00102-20100910-1700

IMG00106-20100910-1705

On a more somber note, many prayers and thoughts for those who lost someone in the attacks nine years ago today.  My husband was actually in NYC at the time (I, on the other hand, was studying abroad in France that semester in college)  and I’m always newly grateful that he’s with us today despite the sad fact of his friends that lost their lives that day.  My prayer is actually for a continued striving towards peace and justice in the world that works to educate and prevent the rhetoric that leads to terrorism in the first place.   The world is slowly becoming a better place thanks to people like Greg Mortenson and others who work for peace, justice, and education in Central Asia and beyond!

Looks Like Fall

Feels Like Fall

Popham Beach Top—Anthropologie, sale
brown tweed pencil skirt--Banana Republic, remixed
blue belt--Old Navy, remixed
gladiator platforms--Simply Vera, remixed

There’s good news and there’s less good news.

The good news is that the husband is home safe and sound after a wonderful wedding weekend and time with his parents and the other not-necessarily-55-and-over crowd in their Florida community.

The bad news is that SOMEONE left the camera in said community.

That means that you and I are stuck with Blackberry and IPhone photos for the next week until we venture to Seattle for his brother’s wedding and see his parents again.  How lucky am I that these are my problems?

IMG00098-20100909-1634

On the other hand, I actually have some new fun stuff to wear so it’s too bad that the photos will be sub-par.  Like this top: I absolutely adore the detail and when I tried it on at Anthro a while back, I loved the orange color and pretty ruffles, but was not interested in paying full price for it.  Lo and behold, it quickly went on sale and I snatched it up, immediately thinking about wearing it with this belt and skirt.   I’m also excited to wear it with jeans now that the weather has cooled down.

I just felt great in this outfit all day and the colors are fall incarnate!

green tube top—Hollister, old
pink cropped cardigan--Express, remixed
distressed boyfriend khakis--American Eagle, remixed
strappy brown wedges--Banana, remixed
"approaching dusk necklace"--Anthropologie, sale

Happy Hump Day, everybody!

After looking at these pictures this morning, I actually wore the cardigan unbuttoned all day, but was constantly tugging on the top to keep it up.  Not comfy.  And I suppose that holes in the knees are less than appropriate for work, but I was feeling the pegged-pants-with-loose-top-and-pretty-necklace look.

DSCN0092

I love this new necklace (also part of my gifts-to-self from the Anthro sale section last month)!  It’s actually long and has the clusters of beads hanging down either side, but I decided to double loop it to fill the space left by the strapless top.   So pretty and delicate and I think it will be versatile with the two different lengths!

I’ve got a hot date tonight with the a/c on full blast, a heating pad on my belly, and some nutella on whatever I can find in the pantry. :)  Have a great one!

Some Randoms

Oh friends, it’s been far too long!!  Things have been busy with a whirlwind romantic get-away to Maine last weekend, and then my birthday and ensuing festivities this past week with another quick day-cation on Saturday.  Whew!

Let’s catch up!  Brace yourself for a slew of outfit photos below and a recap of our awesome weekend away to come!

This was just a work outfit on a day when I was feeling especially beachy!  I love this dress, but it’s old and the stays on the inside poke through the fabric and rub, making it incredibly uncomfortable.  Boo—but I was happy to get another summer out of it!

Missing Pieces

08.05.10

August 5, 2010

printed miniskirt—Express, remixed
white tank--Banana, remixed
gray knit blazer--Gap, remixed
green beads--J.Crew, old
silver t-straps--J.Crew, remixed

Somehow when I was catching up the other day I skipped from Wednesday to Friday without posting Thursday’s outfit—must have been the post-challenge celebration-induced stupor…

This skirt was another item I wanted to wear and had even debated including in my 30 items, but ultimately didn’t.  I really love the pattern and fun ruffles and that after lusting after it for a bit, I finally got it on sale.  I tried to office-ify it here by putting a knit blazer over my tank top, but seriously, I’m basically breaking every professional rule in the book: I’m wearing flip-flops and a miniskirt to work, after all.   Yay summer!

08.07.10 Maxxed Out

August 7, 2010

purple maxi dress—Forever 21, last year
green sandals--American Eagle, remixed
earrings--Forever 21, remixed
sunglasses--Target, new!

Although this maxi dress was a staple for me last summer, this is the first time I’ve pulled it out this year.  I love the rich color and halter neck of this one and it’s like walking around in a nightgown, which is always a bonus.

I haven’t exactly been a shopping animal since my ban “ended,” since the husband and I are buckling down to get out of debt by the end of the year.  SO excited for that possibility that even if I buy nothing between now and January 1, 2011, it will be worth it.  I’m not promising that will be the case (dare I even hope that it’s not?), but we have concrete goals and putting money towards things other than credit cards will be lovely.  Ugh.

In any case, I did purchase a new pair of sunglasses at Target since the ones I’d bought from there three years ago randomly cracked and broke for no apparent reason the other day.   Practical purchase?   Yes.  But also thrilling given the lack of spending I’ve done over the last month.

See?  It did work!  I’m overjoyed at a pair of $15 sunglasses and still realistic about going spendy-spendy.

For now.IMG_5853

Post-Challenge Blues Already?

08.04.10 Shopping My Closet

August 4, 2010

sleeveless sweater—Ann Taylor, old
white chinos--J.Crew, remixed
big brown belt--Banana, remixed
silver t-straps--J.Crew, remixed
leaf earrings--10,000 Villages, remixed

I really had no idea what to wear the day after the 30 for 30 ended so I made a list of things I wanted to wear again.  Admittedly, it was a short, random list, so we’ll see how far that gets me.  This top was on that list—it’s at least five years old but I hadn’t worn it yet this summer.

I like the neutrals trend and the ease of pairing them together for hot, hot days like we’ve had all summer.  Wearing white just makes me feel cooler.  IMG_5822

30 of 30 AKA FIN.

08.03.10 30 of 30 Fin.

August 3, 2010

colorblock tank dress—Express, remixed
gold tee--NY&Co, remixed
peacock belt--Modcloth, remixed
beige platforms--BCBG via DSW, remixed
earrings--American Eagle, remixed

I. did. it.

Friends, I cannot believe it’s true, but I managed not only to remix 30 items into 30 outfits, but to go without shopping for a month.  Therein lies the victory.  I’ve learned a lot, but I’ll save that for a recap post with the photos, remixes, and life lessons.

IMG_5803

I was pretty happy that outfit #30 didn’t end up as a dress on my head and me collapsed in my underwear in a corner somewhere.  That is to say that I like this outfit and I’m glad I figured out a way to remix this tank dress that I rationalized buying because it was “just so versatile.”

I took the necklaces off and added this tee on top, knotting it in the back so it would stay in place.  And I know that last time, I also wore this dress with these platforms, but I really do love them so much that any chance to wear them must be taken.  I’m not sick of any of my shoe choices, believe it or not, but maybe because they would have all been my go-to shoes this summer anyway.

Re-cap of the whole challenge and my 30 outfits coming soon!

floral skirt--H&M, remixed
peeptoe flats--Madden Girl via DSW, remixed

Some more photos from this weekend…

I threw this on when my husband and I decided last-minute to go see Inception on Saturday afternoon at the IMAX.  We loved it!  The big screen and effects were pretty fun, not to mention the fact that we snuck in our own snacks and wine in coffee mugs. :)

Angel / Starlet

06.29.10 Angelic

June 29, 2010

white maxi dress—American Eagle, last summer
gold metallic sandals--Madden Girl via ebay, remixed
pink pearl necklace--J.Crew, remixed
brown beaded headband--hand-me-up from sister
brown patterned scarf--Banana Republic, retail days
aviators--knock-offs from Vegas

For not knowing what I was going to wear in the morning, I was really happy with the way this outfit came together!  I got called an angel at work and a starlet by my husband, so I’ll happily take either one. :)
It was in the 90s again yesterday so I went for this white breezy maxi dress with an open tie-back to keep cool and added the gold sandals and accessories to glam it up a bit.  I wanted to keep the gypsy, hippie vibe with the headband just sort of slapped on the back of my head and sunglasses with a scarf to cover my cleavage for the office.  Done!

Heat Weakens My Reserves

06.28.10 A/C Love

Well, we caved.  It was necessary and I have never appreciated a/c like this.  We actually bought it last week during a long afternoon of weakness and the cats and I have been grateful ever since.  Make no mistake: this is a tiny, tiny window-unit air conditioner but when you’re used to nothing, it feels like pure, pure grace. :)
06.28.10 Comfy Shoes are a Must

June 28, 2010

gray jersey dress (w/ purple sash)—Limited, old
white pointelle tank--American Eagle, old
black beaded flip flops--Unlisted, gift & remixed
green metallic headband--J.Crew, remixed
giant white beads--Target, old

This is what I wore yesterday, trying stay cool.  I’m a big devotee of the jersey dress for summer and have had this one for years and years.  And after Sunday’s half-marathon, my blistered feet and sore legs left flip flops as the only feasible option.  At least they’re pretty flip flops?

06.28.10

Don’t these beads scream Wilma Flintstone?  They came from Target years ago but I think they’re so fun and kitschy!

Some favorites

06.24.10 For Love of Flowers

June 24, 2010

patterned dress—Ann Taylor, thrifted
pink flower pin--H&M, remixed
blue snakeskin sandals--LOFT, old
earrings--Simply Vera, remixed

These pics are from Thursday and this is probably my favorite thrift store find ever.  It was a brand-new Ann Taylor dress in my size, with the tags still attached.  AND it was a petite, which my super-short legs are always grateful for!  I found it last year and truth be told, I’ve not had as good of luck since.

06.25.10 Boat Shoes

June 25, 2010

pink lace tank—American Eagle, old
putty cardigan--J.Crew, remixed
gray denim crops--American Eagle, old
boat shoes--Sperry Top-Siders

Friday was sort of a crazy day with preparations to go to Boston on Saturday for my second half-marathon with Team Challenge.  I think I’ve mentioned previously that my husband has had Crohn’s disease for over a decade and last summer I got involved with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation on his behalf and began fundraising and training to run a half-marathon.   I actually raised over $4200 last fall and got to travel to Las Vegas where I ran my first-ever half!  Mind you—I couldn’t run a mile without stopping to walk when I started the training last August.

I had such an amazing experience and met so many fabulous and inspiring people that I stayed involved this season as a mentor.  The race was actually in Boston, so New England got to be the host team!  More on the details of the race weekend later, but all of this is to say that I spent Friday running around like crazy.  And making door signs for my amazing mentees!

06.25.10 Door Signs!

Aren’t they pretty?  I shouldn’t tell you the secret in case any of you decide to take the plunge and train with Team Challenge, but we sneak around and hang them on the hotel room doors so they’re the first thing folks see when they leave in the morning to run their race!  It was such a neat surprise for me in Vegas!

IMG_5236

My outfit was pure function and comfort today—tank, cardigan, crops, and BOAT SHOES!!!  I’ve wanted a pair of Top-Siders forever and my mom surprised me and sneakily bought me a pair while I was visiting family a few weeks ago.  I LOVE THEM.  They are buttery soft, completely comfortable, and apparently, right on trend this summer.  I’ll be wearing these a lot into the fall and winter with socks and jeans, too.   Obsessed.

Top-Siders!

Summer of Stripes

06.21.10 Making Like the Dog

This is what Guthrie (world’s greatest dog) and I have done so far this week.   It’s been crazy HOT in this second-story apartment with no a/c and it just zaps my energy and makes me rest in front of a fan immediately.  Plus I have a cold.  Who gets sick in the middle of summer?  Enough whining….seriously, how cute is she sleeping on her bed? Usually her head hangs off or the cats take up all of the space.

Oh…you’re here for clothes? :)  Well okay, then…

06.22.10 Professional

June 22, 2010

pink shadow-striped shirt--Limited, old
taupe pencil skirt--Limited, remixed
gladiator platforms--Simply Vera, remixed
blue beads--Target, remixed
white braided belt--American Eagle, remixed

Sorry for the awful quality of this photo—I didn’t take my photo until later that night when I was headed out to Whole Foods and even though it wasn’t quite dark outside yet, this is what I got.   I dressed a little more professionally for work yesterday since I had a parent of a prospective coming in and was supposed to help with interviews for a new position.  I like to try and look a little more grown-up and like I know what I’m doing when there are visitors. :)  My go-to professional outfit seems to be a button down and pencil skirt?  I like it.

Today was even more exciting.  Here’s a hint….

IMG_5207

Yep, I wore my new TOMS wedges for the first time!!  I am obsessed.  I’ve never had a pair of TOMS before and when I saw the new wedges, I was determined despite their steep price of $69.  They’re comfortable, they’re cute, and best of all, they donate a pair to a child in need for every pair you buy, as I’m sure you all know.

So go get some!!

TOMS Wedges!!
TOMS!!

I’m not sure why these are blurry, but no matter—I’ll be wearing these often!

I did wear something besides shoes today…

06.23.10 Summer of Stripes

June 23, 2010

blue tank dress--TopShop
red striped wedges--TOMS <3
anchor necklace--Berk's, remixed
putty cardigan--J.Crew, remixed

I bought this dress on my one and only trip to the TopShop store in Soho last summer and it’s a funny story, as it’s actually (in theory) about three sizes too big.  The tag was mismarked, I guess, but I bought it in a hurry and can only really tell in the top (ie. no need to unzip it to put it on).  I also can’t imagine how short the skirt would be if it was a smaller size!!  Scandalous.

IMG_5205

I may have gone overboard with two sets of stripes and the anchor necklace, but I think it looks just nautical and summery enough.  I’m loving that stripes are such a trend this season as I seem to have a lot of them in my closet and they always look sharp with minimal effort.

Plus I had on my red, white, and blue for the USA World Cup victory!!!  Woo-hoo!!
